From the 1892 Chicago guidebook, Chicago by Day and Night, a chapter about the “Cheyenne District”, bounded by Harrison, Dearborn, 12th St (later renamed Roosevelt) and Fifth Ave (later renamed Wells).

Also called the “most wicked place in America”, the Cheyenne would soon be replaced by the Levee District to the south as the most notorious.
