This being the 5000th post for Calumet 412, and as I have done for every 1000th post over the last 3 years, I will dedicate this entry to the Everleigh sisters, the patron saints and inspiration for my site.

Calumet 412 was the phone number for the famous sporting club (aka, brothel) The Everleigh Club at 2131-33 S Dearborn Street in the First Ward’s Levee District from 1900 to 1914. Known world-wide as a civilized and elegant place of “respite.”

Read here a chapter on the famous phone number from Charles Washburn’s 1934 biography of Ada and Minna Everleigh, Come Into My Parlor.
