Hello Charley was a phenomenon started in the 1920’s when a letter addressed simply, “Charley, the Western” actually reached it’s intended recipient, a popular employee at Hawthorne named Charlie Drucker.
It became a solidarity rally cry among Hawthorne plant workers.
Each year, from 1930 until 1980, a Hello Charley Beauty Queen was crowned.
